    cannot open C drive

I need some serious help for my Windows XP Home SP2 based HP laptop. Recently it was infected with Virus (I don’t know from where it same) but have cleaned it completely using Norton security. But now there is a new problem and I think it is because of that infection itself. Since then am not able to open C drive any more. Rest all partitions (D, E and F) are opening properly but when I clock C drive, I get a message saying “Open with, Chose the program you want to use to open the file” like am opening some file.

Tried many suggestions so far from web but nothing worked. Can anyone here help me fixing the same? All helps appreciated.

    Ok go through these steps:

    • Open Windows Explorer, click Tools and folder options.
    • Under View tab check mark the option “Show Hidden Files and Folders”
    • Now Open My computer, right click C drive, select “Explorer”
    • Here you will find a file named “autorun.ini”. Shift + Delete it.

Now run your Antivirus again and scan the entire system.

    Re: cannot open C drive

Thank you very much for the help friend. I did as you said but even on selecting “Explorer” I’m getting the same message “Open with: Chose the program you want to use to open the file.” So no help.

One thing I would like to tell that when I open any program with browse option (Ex: MS Word), on clicking browse I’m able to browse C drive. Can this help in anyway?

Yes, that will work. Click on Browse, go to C drive, in the open dialog box select “all files”. It will show you autorun.ini as well. Just right click this file right there and delete it. Now scan your system.

This is easy way to fix your problem >>>>step-1 > install IObit security from or copy this link and run a scan for the whole computer then you will see a virus(HIJACK..HIDDEN FOLDER) and delete it.

    1) Double-click on My Computer on Desktop.

    2) Choose Tools and select "Folder options"
    - Click on "View" tab, select and untick "Show Hidden files and folders" and "Hide Extention...." then click on apply.
    3) back to "my computer" right click on C drive and select explore then you will see "Autorun.inf" delete the file.
    4) go back to "Folder options" Click "View" Tab, select "Restore Defaults" and click on "Apply".
    5) "Restart" your Computer.
