| Error 39 installing USB Wifi dongle (XP Home)
Hi there. I recently formatted one of my laptops and reinstalled XP Home. Applied SP2 and all automatic updates. Came to install my WiFi dongle (made by Edup - just a cheap job) and the installation seemed to go through OK. Got the usual Windows Logo testing warning which I continued past and it started copying files over to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. Came up with the error: - Windows can not load device driver for theis hardware. It may be corrupt or missing (Error 39). I tried uninstalling from device manager and installing via the install CD rather than the hardware wizard but I get the same issue. The disk is free from dirt or scratches. I've had the device working on this machine prior to the rebuild and it works on other machines. Any ideas? I can always re-format but it'd be a pain. Thanks |

Hello, Did you install the chipset drivers that came with the laptop? Look for a Drivers CD, load it up and follow instructions to install the drivers for your chipset/video/sound/keyboard/etc. Additionally, try downloading the latest driver for the device from their official website. -- Singapore Website Design http://www.bootstrike.com/Webdesign/ Singapore Web Hosting http://www.bootstrike.com/WinXP/faq.html Windows XP FAQ "Insomniacalls" <Insomniacalls@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:739EDF0E-841B-4D96-9F53-CBB2537DBDEE@microsoft.com... > Hi there. > > I recently formatted one of my laptops and reinstalled XP Home. > Applied SP2 and all automatic updates. > Came to install my WiFi dongle (made by Edup - just a cheap job) > and the installation seemed to go through OK. > Got the usual Windows Logo testing warning which I continued past > and it started copying files over to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. > Came up with the error: - Windows can not load device driver for theis > hardware. Hi there. Thanks for the response. Yes I installed the latest chipset drivers for the PC from the manufacturer website. One of the unfortunate problems with buying cheap hardware is that finding drivers for them proves tricky! I did have a similar issue prior to the format after installing SP2. I may re-install XP and install the device before I update to SP2. Any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks. A similar message is generated in connection with some corrupted "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" entries in the Windows registry that sometimes interfere with CD-ROM operation. |

Here is the Code 39 fix. Read the Note below Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} NOTE: If you are getting a code 39 message, it may be that additional third-party filter drivers were added to UpperFilters and LowerFilters values in addition to Adaptec filter drivers. In that case, you may try to remove the non-Adaptec filter drivers first, leaving the Easy Creator filters in place to see if the Code 39 goes away. If you still receive an error code 39, 32, or 31 message, remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely in the preceding key. -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged.
