My DVDRW is recognized as a DVD-RAM, and my DVD-ROM is recognized as CD-ROM, Help!

Hi,

Just discovered this forum. I need help. I've been trying to get my DVDRW and DVD-ROM to work together. I made my DVDRW a master, and my DVD-ROM a slave, they're both secondary. The Hard drive is a primary master. Now, Windows recognizes the fact that I have these two drives but my DVDRW only seems to be able to read DVDs, and my DVD-ROM can only read CDs.

I'm very mixed up, open to any suggestions. I've tried everything I can.

Thanks.

Without any more details, we can only give you "rough" suggestions:

1) Try each drive as a "separate" single drive.
2) Use a lens cleaner.
3) Check and replace IDE/ATA cable. Use an UltraDMA, 80wire cable.

If these "suggestions" do not help, check the "age" of the two drives
so as to see if they may be under a warranty. All DVD drives use 2
different lasers. One for CDs and the other for DVDs. You be unlucky
with both the drives having one of the lasers no longer working.

What details would be needed?I didn't know more was needed.

These are not old drives, I have had each for less than a year and they've both been tested on other computers.

I'll try them as separate single drives though, thanks.

More info that can be useful:

- Manufacturer of the drive(s)
- Model number of each
- Firmware version from each

Re: My DVDRW is recognized as a DVD-RAM, and my DVD-ROM is recogni

Hi. My DVDRW is not recognized as a writtable disk by Windows XP. I have
been working this problem for months and was finally advised by a microsoft
support engineer that windows xp has this "known problem" that MAY be fixed
in a future service pack (no guarantee). You need a third party DVD program.
I have Nero 6 and it will format, copy files to, erase and use the DVD R/W
disk as a backup.
