HI, all of a sudden my USB HDD is not showing up in the device manager. Anyone a hint on getting it back to work. I have: WinXP Prof SP2 ENGL Dell Inspirion 9300 Maxtor 3200 - not working. - seperate AC/DC Trekstore USB HDD (this one works fine), USB powered I had the Maxtor working before, and now, when I plug it into the USB Port on the system no reaction happens at all! Thanks, Daniel |

| RE: USB HDD Maxtor - not showing in the device manager
Dear Daniel I just had the same problem. I have XP pro SP2 on Pentium 4 3.2 gb system. I purchased a Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 external which connects by USB. I only used this HDD for backup. Everything worked fine for months. Then suddenly my computer won't acknowledge the drive. However, under device manager, the HDD is recognised and described as working properly, and the USB connection appears intact. I checked out the MAXTOR web site and came up with this link which suggests we have to contact Microsoft to provide us a hotfix for this problem. I am just about to do that. If you have found a solution let me know. Likewise I will let you know if the hotfix works. I have changed cables on the drive, and tried it on other computers, but unfortunately all my computers have XP operating system so I cannot check if it is just an operating system incompatibility issue. Hi Bilby, thanks for the info! In the meantime I had the storage sent in to the service. I suppose it was a controller malfunction on mine... They made an exchange - unfrotunately including a loss of my data :( If you have important data, I'd rather miss out on the exchanged HDD and buy me an IDE to USB controller... Good Luck with yours! and Thanks for the link! Daniel "Bilby" wrote: > Dear Daniel > > I just had the same problem.
