win xp sp2 not compatible with Maxtor D740X-6L causing STOP c0000221 error

My computer was working fine until I installed the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. After the machine starts and when the Windows graphical window appears then after some second, I am getting a BSOD - STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error. After some troubleshooting I have found out that it is an incompatibility between the Maxtor D740X-6L hard drive and Windows XP service pack 2 on my motherboard Intel D815EEA2. So therefore I replaced the hard drive with Western Digital drive and not the problem seems to resolved. Many were saying that this issue was cause due to faulty ram or so, but that wasnt the case for me. Any comments?

I dont want to blame an incompatibility with the hard drive that you have but I want to blame the cause of this issue might be because of a bad hard drive.

If you receive the error message that you have described then the file listed in the error message is corrupted. To resolve this issue, you need to either obtain a new copy of the file or reinstall Windows. If reinstallation fails to solve the problem, a hardware or network problem may exist.
