No "Recording" tab in CD-R properties

This is Windows XP Pro SP2 system running with Lite-On CD recorder. There is no problem in the system performance but when I check my CD recorder Properties, I find no Tab for ?Recording.? I mean there use to be a recording tab, right? But there is not for mine.

Can anyone please tell me what could be wrong? If it matters, I am using Nero for burning process. Please help.

Many times when we install any third party and heavy burner software like Nero, it overtakes windows built-in IMAPI services. This would have taken place in your case as well. So what you can do is go to Start, click RUN, type services.msc and press Enter. Under Services console, search for ?IMAPI CD-Burning Com Service? and see of it is not disabled.

The cause of this action is of course Nero because probably doesn't want any other drivers other than its running. So it might have disabled the system driver or as mentioned above the system service.

Re: No "Recording" tab in CD-R properties

I found the answer. Go to Help and Support at support.microsoft.com then it is under CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device. I had to edit the registry but first it tells you to back it up. and explains how. It's done by change the volume from a 3 to a 2 or 1 depending on CDR or CDRW. I'm thrilled!!! Ask me more details if you can't find it.
