| USB Device Not Recognized
When I plugged my iPhone into my computer yesterday to add some more songs on it, and the bubble popped up saying USB Device not Recognized... Never had this issue before, it's always just started up iTunes, and connected and worked fine. Then tonight, I plugged in my digital camera to charge, and it IS charging, however the bubble popped up saying USB Device not Recognized for that also, and it won't connect to the Kodak Software. I have used both of these products on my computer for over 6 months and never had an issue until starting yesterday. How do I fix this?!?! |

First thing to try is to System Restore to Monday when it all worked correctly. If it works, keep an eye on what comes down Windows Update or other updates you may have received for other programs and find out which one 'breaks' the system. Of course if you know you (or someone with access to the PC) installed something between Monday and yesterday, uninstall it and see if that fixes the issue.. |

Okay. I did that, and now I have undone the restore. Here is what I found out. If I plug the devices in that keep getting the error, into one of the 2 USB ports on the left side of the computer, they work just fine. During restore and after undoing restore as well. However, if you plug them into either of the 2 USB ports on the right side, during or after undoing restore, it gets the error: USB Device Not Recognized "One of the USB devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. " So something seems to be wrong with the 2 USB ports on the right side, i don't know why or how I haven't done anything different. How would I go about trying to resolve this? |

Those USB ports have failed. If the machine is still under guarantee (probably not since you say it's an XP PC) then contact the manufacturer. If it's a notebook, you'll probably want to get a USB hub, which basically uses a cable from one of the working USB ports to a small device that has extra USB ports on it.... call it daisy chaining if you want. If it's a desktop PC, get a USB 2.0 PCI card, which just slots in to an open PCI slot and gives you up to 5 or so extra USB ports.... but they'll obviously be at the back of the tower case. It might be that the cable to the side USB ports has come loose, but if you're unsure, get a tech to look for you. Either of the above options is cheap. The tech option probably isn't! |

You are a genius and a life saver. I lost all of my usb ports and therefore all my plug and play devices and just as I was going to transfer all the music I have been recording for months on to my Sony Walkman for my Christmas Party. |

Touch Base, I had to register just to say a huge thank you. I had the same problem of non working USB ports and the constant USB not recognized message. |
