"Unknown Device" problem with the wrong device id

Hi,
i have win xp pro sp2 (an old pc) with just 2 ports of usb 1.1 (motherboard
ports) and i'm using Santana(or whatever) 802.11g usb wireless adapter it
just worked so fine and driver's installation was so smooth but i'm sick of
waiting 20 years so i could download something or copying files from/to usb
flash drives so i bought a VIA 5 ports usb2 pci card, the printer worked with
just one click and the read/write speed of flash drives is superb but when i
connected the adapter to the card the widows tried to install the driver and
after a "successful" installation it didn't work! (normal behavior you need
to install the driver like 360 times so that the windows really recognize it)
so i uninstalled the old driver and inserted the cd and installed it again
and again but didn't work out. i opened the device manager and wallah! the
device is called "Unkown Device" and it's under usb ( when it was connected
to usb1.1 it was under network adapters with the name "802.11g usb 2.0
adapter"). i've tried everything even unrelated solution (like kicking the
hell out of the pc - by the way DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME) i removed it from the
device manager but keeps "installing" it under unknown device, tried
installing the driver manually with the "update driver" and "add new
hardware" with a specified path to the cd but it keeps saying that there is
no matched drivers so i plugged it to usb1.1 and it worked, i returned it to
usb2 and it didn't, tried other ports, the same, and when i open the
proprieties of the "unknown device" the device id was
"USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\..." it not realistic so compared with the id when it
is connected to usb1.1 the id was "USB\VID_1435&PID_0427\..." makes sense i
looked in the inf file of the driver's installation and it was as said when
plugged in usb 1.1, so i'm stuck and the only way out was to change the inf
device id to 0000 i tried but still "no match" (maybe i did it wrong i'm not
expert at inf files), searched the internet but no relevant articles/forums
so here i am, rock you like a hurricane (by the way i was kidding about the
part were i kicked the pc but really DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME) i'll appreciate
any suggestion thnx!

Jack, does the manufacturer of the device have a website? I would look
there.

no actually the wierd thingis that the company's name is not written on the
usb but when i installed it with usb1.1 it says santana rev 2 (something like
that). the model that is written on the usb is druc-u3 and it's the same as
the cd label, i found the driver at my isp site, downloaded it and tried but
nothing works and there is no company site. i found this link wich lead to
the download of the software that manges the connection:

i shloud've bought somthing more reliable.
the question here is why windows have the wrong device id when it's
connected to usb2 and the right one when connected to usb1.1?

Man! this is sooooo stupid! didn't know that there is something called usb1
cable and usb2 cable??? i mean it's just a cable! turned out that the cable
is causing the problem it only supports usb 1?? yeah as weird as it sounds!

High/full speed cable 480Mbps/12Mbps four wires, shielded on outside, D+/D- twisted pair.
Low speed cable 1.5Mbps four wires, no shield, D+/D- not twisted
(Might come with a keyboard.)

So you really want to avoid cables without the shield. This is why the
cables with transparent outer insulation are nice, because you can see the
foil or braided shield underneath, and can verify it is a shielded cable.

whhhhhhhhaatt? there just making a too much bug deal out of nothing but that
son of a ---- tricked my father i told him at the phone "a usb **2** 5 meters
cable" apperently he didn't know that are diffrent kind of cables!
still its too much big deal out of nothing i mean who cares i just need a
cable.
