| USB drive not recognised
Hi Have WinXP Pro with SP3. The issue is with a external LaCie USB/FW drive. The drive was connected to my pc for the last 6 months and now it is no longer recognised - either USB or FW - yet the drive receives power OK from either connection. Plug the same drive into my XPP based laptop & it is recognised OK and its data can be accessed. Any suggestions as to why the drive is not seen on the 1st PC and how to resolve the issue would be appreciated. TIA Tom |

Restart the 1st PC, that mainly fixes the problem. else, the drivers may be corrupt... so maybe a reformat is in order? Have you tried to install the driver that surely came with the drive? You could also compare the working laptop with the not working unit to see if you can spot any differences in the driver. As to Mr "Rogers" advice, I'd stay away from reformatting a drive, just because a usb/fw device fails to work. Did you by any chances do something in the BIOS? Tried to start the PC with the unit plugged in? >> >> TIA >> >> Tom >> > Dragomir Kollaric -- This signature is licensed under the GPL and may be freely distributed as long as a copy of the GPL is included... :-) |

In answer tou you questions: The drive uses the std Windows USB drivers. No changes have been made to the BIOS Other USB devices plugged into the same USB port are detected by XPP and work OK Tom "Dragomir Kollaric" <Dragomir@DK.org.invalid> wrote in message news:20080731154057.407@DK-Slivowitz.org.invalid... > On 2008-07-31, Tommayye Rogers hit the keyboard and wrote: >> Restart the 1st PC, that mainly fixes the problem. >> else, the drivers may be corrupt... so maybe a reformat is in order? >> >> "Tom" <Tom@nospam.co.uk> wrote in message >> news:uApi6mt8IHA.356@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >>> Hi >>> >>> Have WinXP Pro with SP3. Have already tried those points and it made no difference. "smlunatick" <yveslec@gmail.com> wrote in message news:0be30b97-d205-4b24-afc7-a74432aff4f7@59g2000hsb.googlegroups.com...
