An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.

Recently I always experience my XP Pro SP3 system responding very slowly,
almost like it hangs. When I check in Event Viewer, I have this error. In
event viewer always this error happens 10-20 times, then followed by a "The
device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period"
error, then it repeats. Sometimes if I reboot, it disappears but sometimes
even the boot-up of XP becomes very very slow. I have to switch off the
power and restart again.
What can be the possible courses? Does this indicate some hardware failure?

Download and run the hard drive mfg's diagnostic utility to test the hard
drive, that will tell you if the drive is failing, good chance that it is.
