Windows System File Corrupted - Need to Repair Without Re-install

I am using a laptop that will not start because of the above error message. I am trying to repair the file without using the Toshiba Repair disks. I am not able ot create a boot disk and use to startup, then I can replace or repair the file maybe - ws\system32\config\system. Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue? Thanks.

You can use the Toshiba CD which will allow you to boot to the repair windows option. Just insert and boot from your Windows XP CD. At the first press R for repair. After that press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.

You can also try to run the system file checker. It will be able to replace any corrupted system files, from the Windows CD.

I dont think you will be able to run SFC command since you are not able to boot your computer.

I was thinking that SFC Scannow could be run from the Recovery Console that will be obvious for Microsoft to include, and the next page seemed to confirm my assumption, but trying it for myself, I found the command is not included in the list. So, an alternative method could be to access the Recovery Console and copy the file from the XP CD with some command like; copy c:\windows\servicepackfiles\I386\filename.sys c:\windows\system32

Thanks for the replies, so you mean to say that it will work even if the Toshiba disk is not a normal Windows XP setup disk but an OEM recovery disk? I will try to do the method that you have described and see if that works.
