Unsupported Operating System error when loading Media player 11

After the download of Windows Media Player 11 finishes and after validation, I am getting the below error message:

Windows media player 11
Setup can not continue
Unsupported operating system
Please visit windows update to download the update rollup 2 for windows xp medial center edition 2005 before installing windows media player 11

Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue? Thanks

You will need to install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. So you can download and install the standalone version of SP3 from the below link:

I have downloaded the service pack 3 as said and then downloaded windows media player again. But still I am getting the failure to install / unsupported operating system message after windows verification process. The refrences actually is to install Windows Update rollup 2 - KB899589 that does not install.
