Keyboard Shortcuts in Win XP.

I make a habit of creating keyboard shortcuts to fire up my most-used
programs - e.g. "CTRL + ALT + O" for MS Outlook.

When recently upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2007, the upgrade routine
uninstalled Outlook 2000 prior to installing the '2007 version; the new
Office suite is also in a different folder.

However, re-setting this shortcut to the new Outlook program has no effect,
and if I try to use it, it attempts to re-load the old version; as this is no
longer there there Windows Installer starts to run, attempting to re-insstall
Office/Outlook 2000.

I assume that there is something still lurking on my PC which contains this
old shortcut/link: does anyone know what and where? I have searched the
Registry for the old Outlook path and filename but with no success, so assume
it must be something else.

Thanks.

Kev

Did you then reboot or logoff/logon?
XP enumerates keys from shortcuts in the Start Menus and Desktops at LOGON.

Not sure where you're coming from, but on XP Pro, you can change any of
the properties of a shortcut and they are applied immediately.
I often keep a shortcut window open while I watch the effects of my
changes to be sure they are what I expected.
Am I mis-reading soemtnhing? If so, apologies.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts in Win XP.

OS is Win XP Home Edition; these shortcuts have always taken effect
immediately they have been created or changed, so I have never needed to
reboot.

Having said that, I've just tried the keyboard shortcut (the PC's been shut
down several times since my original posting) and it's now decided to work
properly - i.e. firing up Outlook 2007, NOT trying to run the old Outlook
2000, so it seems to have sorted itself. Perhaps as I had uninstalled Office
2007 and reinstalled just some components in a new location?

Anyhow, all now sorted, thanks.
