SP3 - Access is denied
I am getting "Access Denied" error when I am trying to install the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. When checking the error in the svcpack.log, then it has something to do with the missing rights on the registry, which is totally wrong since I am the Admin of my computer. I have given all the users full control on my registry but still I am getting this error? Can anyone please help, check the below error details: The last lines of the log-file: 1318.578: DoInstallation: Installing assemblies with source root path: c:\3734fad498122e8c3bd8d81bbecbbf7d\i386\ 1327.063: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1328.297: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1328.813: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1328.953: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1328.953: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1332.375: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1335.328: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1336.547: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1337.734: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1337.734: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1338.109: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1338.344: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1338.344: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1338.406: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1338.578: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1338.578: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1338.781: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1339.016: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1339.703: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1339.828: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x0 1339.938: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 1339.938: Num Ticks for Copying files : 809235 1343.391: DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.Install error: 0x5 1343.391: INF_REGISTRY Failed 1343.391: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed 1369.688: Unregistration of sprecovr successful 1369.734: Access is denied. 2488.953: Message displayed to the user: Access is denied. 2488.953: User Input: OK 2488.984: Service Pack 3 installation did not complete. Re: SP3 - Access is denied
Have you tried to check the below link on this article "Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or ?Service Pack installation did not complete? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 |

You should know that unless you have installed SP1 you wont be able to install the Service Pack 3. |

You might be having a access permission problem on registry, so try the below steps and check if it works or not:
