Age of Empires multiplayer crash problem

Hi, I have problem to start multiplayer game in Age of Empires 1. When I
click on multiplayer game in main menu of game, nothing happens and the
program stops to respond. Its very hard to exit it when, it even run when I
log out and log in again. Only turning PC off and on helps.

I have Windows XP Home SP2, DirectX 9.0c and AoE 1.0c. I also tried to run
it in Windows 95 compatability mode, but without sucess.

Please help. I tried to find someone with simmilar problem, but find nothing.

I am havign the same problem but with aoe 2 the conqueres! but i am running
vista please help!!
