Desktop icon label problem

[Emimec]

Using XP Pro, I did something when using a CD label making programme that
accidentally made the desktop icons have a blue rectangular label behind the
normal white lettering for the icon. This is only on the log in the wife
uses, my log in is "normal", white letters under the icons, no "label".

I've tried to change all sorts of things to get rid of it, but can only get
the label to change colour.Tried ticks in and out of boxes in properties of
system/appearance etc.

I notice if I go into the icon properties, choose an alternative, and
browse, I'm taken to

%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll

Here I see that folders DRVSTORE and DLLCACHE are in blue font, but the
remainder of folders are in black?
Is this the case for anyone else, or is this where my problem is?

How to restore Icon label Transparency

Right click on the My Computer Icon.
Then select the Properties option.
Next click on the Advanced tab in the System Properties window.
Now click on the Settings button in the box labeled Performance.
Click on the Visual Effects tab in the Performance Options window.
Scroll down and check the box titled 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on
the desktop'.
Finally Click the OK button, then click OK once more.

Many thanks, but tried this and no luck. There was already a tick in the
box, and taking it out did nothing

Right click My computer Icon and select properties.
On System properties> Advanced> Performance> Settings> Visual Effects check
this box.
[ ] Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels On the Desktop

Reboot your machine and see if the changes took an effect and issue resolved.

Since you've already looked into System Properties issue, check the following.

1. Right click on the Desktop. Move your mouse pointer to "Arrange Icons By". In
the menu that pops out, make sure "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
Click on it to remove the check mark.

2. Right click on the Desktop and select Properties from the menu. In Display
Properties, click on the Desktop tab. On the Desktop page, hit the Customize
Desktop button. In Desktop Items, click on the Web tab. Make sure all the boxed
are unchecked.

3. Finally, make sure the wallpaper you have displayed is an image file and not
an html file.

To have transparent icons:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced"
tab, under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects"
tab, make sure the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by"
"Lock Web items" is not checked.

3) Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Properties. On the "Desktop"
tab, click "Customize Desktop," then on the "Web" tab, uncheck all
boxes.

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.
