Change the window size/position for an application when it opens

    Hi,

I have a large monitor with 2560x1600 desktop. I have certain apps, such as
MS Access and a digital notes program which I open every day. Every time I
open them I have to resize and re-position the windows as I want them. The
window size/position does not seem to be saved when I close the application.

Is there any way of manipulating this so that when a particular application
opens, its window is already sized to where I want it?

I have already tried one suggestion from another newsgroup, which was to
delete the following keys from the registry. Apparently they rebuild
themselves but this has had no effect.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

    Any other ideas anyone?

Thanks for any help! As always, greatly appreciated.
    Jim

Resize the window, then reposition. Hold down the Alt key and left click the
close window button on the top right of the window (red X). If it won't work
try the Ctl key instead. Mine works with the Alt key.

Instead of closing the application with the X button, go to File -
Exit. Then it will close the app properly and retain the last window
    coordinates.

Thanks both of you. I appreciate your time.

Unfortunately neither of these worked :-( I'm beginning to wonder if there
is something up with my system...just realised i did not mention I am using
    WinXp Pro with SP2.

    Any other ideas anyone?

Additional info: just realised if I do the File - End thing with MS Access,
it DOES work. But I have several, non-microsoft applications where it
doesn't seem to have an effect.

Then you may be out of luck.. Most of the MS apps - Explorer, IE,
Office, have the ability to remember the last window size (if the
application closes properly), and restore it the next time it's
launched - some of the other apps may not be as smart, it could be
hardcoded into their program to open with a certain default window
size at a default position... You may be able to look in the registry
under HKLM\Software and see if the application has any window size/
position settings there that it reads, or possibly use a tool like
Resource Hacker to open up the exe and see if you can find modifiable
windows size parameters. I'd make a backup copy of the exe before
    doing the latter...

Re: Change the window size/position for an application when it opens

As for Bagmru - you want to make it larger. See line 2 here:
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

As for positioning - as already stated, the placement on the most part is
    inherit to the last opened.

In addition you could try to reset Windows Placement (line 60) right hand
side for IE if applicable: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

And/or use a second process: See line 62 (right hand side):
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
