xp service pack 3 problems

I downloaded SP3 for Windows XP and installed it but after that it will not go past the windows logo screen. After the logo screen system will restart and then I will get a blue screen error saying:
stop: c0000139 {entry point not found}
The procedure entry point gdigetbitmapbitssize could not be located in the dynamic link library gdi32.dll

Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue? Thanks

Re: xp service pack 3 problems

You can try to cleanup the test machine before installing the major pack of Service pack. Anyways, try to uninstall unnecessary software. You have to also update the hardware drivers from the hardware manufacturer's support
web pages. You can also use Disk Cleanup to clear all but the last restore point and to free up some space not being used by much more than junk.

Thanks for that, it helped somewhat. Is there anyway to uninstall this SP3 or to force the system to rever back to the pre SP3 status using the recovery console?

Even I am facing the same issue, is there any fix for this problem? Also what is the specs of your computer on which you have installed SP3? I think that most people read the disclaimer but took chance of installing it anyway like me and because of that I am also having problem with it.

Follow the below steps to solve this issue:
  1. First of all try to boot from a Windows CD and go for the repair option.
  2. Now you have to copy gdi32.dll from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll to c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll. Also, just for a caution, do keep a backup copy of the old gdi32.dll in c:\windows\system32 directory.
  3. Now you have to restart the computer normally and check if it works or not.
