Hardware acceleration

When using Nero Vision to burn DVD's I get a warning message at starting the
Nero Program up.....
"Hardware acceleration is deactivated. Some capture devices may not work
properly. You can activate hardware acceleration using the Direct X
diagnostics tool".

I am not sure about the direct x diagnostics tool and how to get there and
use it. However, when going into Control Panel>Display>Settings and clicking
on ADVANCED, I see that Hardware acceleration is set to full. This tells me
that it is set and activated, correct?
The problem I am having is that none of my burning programs will do a dual
layer disc. I use Nero (this is the only program that gives me a message of
hardware acceleration is deactivated), DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, Image Burn,
Magic ISO and others for various tasks. I have burned dual layers in the past
but am now wasting dual layer discs due to errors half way through the burn.
I can use Nero and burn these larger files by reducing quality and putting
them on a single layer disc, but the same file onto a dual layer for better
quality, errors out half way through the burn.
I'm using Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with service pack2 if this helps.
Does this hardware acceleration message/prompt have anything to do with my
dual layer burner(s) not working properly?

I'm not sure you are going to find a connection between you Video driver,
and your burner driver, but anything is possible. You can run the command
DXDIAG to see what is going on in your Video acceleration.
Turning off the built-in burning feature in Windows may help the dual layer
problem, but that's a guess. Rightclick the drive icon in Explorer and
uncheck it on the "Recording" tab.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunatley, I am still having trouble. I ran the
command DXDIAG as you mentioned and everything checked out ok as far as I
could tell. All my tests seemed to work and I was prompted that things were
working properly. HOWEVER, when going to the Display tab, I noticed that
Direct X features are not availible! The able/disable buttons are greyed out
and I cannot figure out why or if this should be. I also went to Drivers in
the device manager and found a big yellow question mark beside " Other
Drivers - Video controller (VGA Compatable) ?"

Maybe I lost my direct X??????

Totaly eneducated to this computer stuff so please understand.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the VGA Compatible device,
Action menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver") then
Action menu,"scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers again
automatically.

I did as you said and had no problem with your directions........ you make
"things" easy, LOL.
Unfortunately, after the "scan for hardware changes", there were no drivers
found for that ? other drivers>video controller device.
Maybe this is a driver used/acknowledged when I plug my MP3 player in to
load music, or my cell phone for files/ringtones, etc?

Unless the web site for the maker of your system offered drivers for the
'chipset' or video, you probably won't find any anywhere else.
Not that Nero is guaranteed to work any better if you did. It looks like
either a limitation of Nero, or your hardware drivers. in either case, I
think you are stuck with using something else.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure why the message: (Hardware acceleration is deactivated. Some
capture devices may not work properly. You can activate hardware acceleration
using the Direct X diagnostics tool) on Nero Vision Start up and why these
direct x features are unavailible/grayed out buttons.

Not to mention my now found "unknown driver".

Everything used to work fine. I have burned dual layers before. Maybe there
is no connection, but I just can not figure out why these burns on a dual
layer error out at half way point.

This puzzle has me.

Hardware Acceleration is a feature of most video cards. This is done
to boost performance in visual presentations, like games. However,
they mainly require DirectX compatible drivers which are usually not
delivered within XP itself. You must get the latest available drivers
from (the following list in priority):

1) PC manufacturer
2) Motherboard manufacturer
3) Video card maker
4) Video card control logic (aka chipset) original developer. Nvidia
and AMD/ATi are two main companies. Intel is usually built-in video
cards.

I am not sure about the direct x diagnostics tool and how to get there and
use it. However, when going into Control Panel>Display>Settings and clicking
on ADVANCED, I see that Hardware acceleration is set to full. This tells me
that it is set and activated, correct?
The problem I am having is that none of my burning programs will do a dual
layer disc. I use Nero (this is the only program that gives me a message of
hardware acceleration is deactivated), DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, Image Burn,
Magic ISO and others for various tasks. I have burned dual layers in the past
but am now wasting dual layer discs due to errors half way through the burn.
I can use Nero and burn these larger files by reducing quality and putting
them on a single layer disc, but the same file onto a dual layer for better
quality, errors out half way through the burn.
I'm using Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with service pack2 if this helps.
Does this hardware acceleration message/prompt have anything to do with my
dual layer burner(s) not working properly?

Just curious if you ever were able to fix the Hardware
Acceleration problem you were having, with it being disabled per Nero application when burning process was being run?

i had solved by installing a driver to the monitor
install a Graphics Media Accelerator Driver according to your motherboard requirement
get it from the site of your motherboard
