The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck

    Hi,

I have a Windows XP computer with which I use my Mobile for sync. Everything was working fine but something went wrong yesterday. Now whenever I connect my phone and disconnect it after doing my work, XP restarts itself. It has happened more than 5 times so far. When I checked the event viewer, I found the following error listed in the log:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000007f
    (0x00000008, 0xf7810d70, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in:
    C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini022408-02.dmp.

As I am not good reading these errors, can anyone please tell me what has went wrong and how can I fix it? Many Thanks.

To me it seems like the problem is due to brief voltage surge causing RFI because as you said it occurs only when you disconnect the phone/modem, otherwise the system runs fine. So i think the problem would be probably with Windows and hence you may need a phone line surge suppressor. If the system restarts apart from disconnecting the phone then you it could be your RAM problem as well and you should try checking your RAM. better try to run a RAM test.

As far as i know surge protector is not related to RFI problems because RFI is not a surge. there seems to be some another hardware issue causing this problem A list of items that could even include other connections to that phone line. Also i dont think these use to be anything in a Modem which can make your system reboot.Premeptive multitasking OSes will identify a failure, record that failure in a log, and work around that failure. Possibly it could be CPU, power supply, memory, sound card, video processor, and a few motherboard functions. So you dont need to stress on phone connection or modem but instead check if these hardwares ate working fine.
