| roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 basic
This came with my computer and operated fine until my computer crashed 3 months ago. I had to completely restore the computer using the restore disc that came with the computer. The roxio works fine again, however the problem that I now have is that when you click on the roxio "eject"(bottom right of screen) it ejects the disc without problem. The second time that you do this the computer automatically shuts down and then restarts and does it each time that you eject a disc from then on. When you get back up a dialog box comes up and says that the computer has recovered from a seious error and to send it to microsoft. The problem has something to do with the following based on the dialog box. C:\DOCUME~1\REG\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WER400e.diroo\mini022108-02.dmp. Also C:\DOCUME~1\REG|LOCALS~1\TEMP\WER400e.diroo\sysdata.xml. Whether I use CD's or DVD's the same problem occurs. The same thing as above occurs when you eject the disc from the computer manually at the tower. From what I remember, when you insert a new disc that has not been formatted by roxio the eject problem does not occur when ejecting manually at the tower. If I turn off the computer and then turn it back on, the same problem will occur, the first time it ejects without problem and then continually restarts each time I eject the disc. I sent an e-mail to roxio regarding this problem and was advised that they no longer support the creator 6 and additionally since it came with the computer they do not provide any assistance and to contact the manufacturer of my computer (e-machines). I did this and e-machines basically told me that they could not or would not help and hung up the phone on me. So much for asking for assistance. Roxio advised to buy creator 10 which I do not need nor do I want to pay the expense and if I run into a problem with it, where is their service. I am finished with the roxio outfit and am interested in getting a program from someone else however I have no idea as to another reputable outfit. Additionally would my dvd's already done using roxio work with another vendor. If not I would have to scrap all my roxio dvd's. Any assistance with the foregoing including new vendors and whether my existing dvd's would be compatable with a new vendor would be appreciated. My main interest is just to fix the problem and if not then find a new vendor. Thank you for your assistance. -- Reg Garbett |

Roxio was needed software 5 or 6 yrs ago with windows OS (ME,98,2000,etc), howver xp doesnt need any of it to write/burn cds/dvd or for playback.Simply uninstall it from add/remove programs,xp software will run as needed. If one must have 3rd party junk,go to:http://www.downloads.com This site will have many to choose from, probably an upgraded roxio, its all free. Thanks for your response Andrew. Had to leave the newsgroups for a few days thus the reason for my late response. Being a novice with computers I find it very frustrating to try to understand how to resolve problems when they occur. You indicated that I can remove Roxio and use XP. A no doubt dumb question:- how do I activate the XP to burn cd/dvd's.I did not know that this could be done with XP but instead thought that I had to have something like Roxio to do this.Another question:- I have dvd's made using Roxio drag to disk. Will these still operate using XP once I delete Roxio? Would I have to move the dvd contents into my documents and then put them back on a dvd using XP burning software? Since I already have dvd's made with Roxio could I leave it in the computer and put up with the problem and in future use XP instead or will one interfere with the other which would require the deletion of Roxio in order to use XP? Your taking the time to assist me with this problem is really appreciated. I look foreward to hearing from you. I have not followed this thread very closely, but I am having problems in writing movies to DVD What I have been told is that XP does NOT have the ability to write to DVD. You need 3rd party software (e.g. Roxio). If a DVD is created by such 3rd party software, then it will play under XP with a DVD player. (Again Roxy would have such a DVD player.) These DVDs should play directly - you do not need to copy them My problem has been with Ulead (also a 3rd party program) and I have had NO success with it lately. I am now trying Nero, with fingers crossed I am sorry that can't answer all your questions because, not having the earlier posts, I am not quite sure what they are. BTW, I may be able to address some issues with FrontPage and writing websites, but I am just as confused as any with the problems of writing to DVDs. So I would be happy to hear of your problems and look at solutions -- Trevor Lawrence Canberra Microsoft MVP - FrontPage MVP Web Site http://trevorl.mvps.org |

Trevor, this is a copy of my original question for your perusal. I believe that this is what you were missing as mentioned in your response. Andrew E in response to this question suggested that I delete Roxio and use the cd/dvd writing available on XP instead. Apparanty windows XP has this feature where earlier versions didn't. Getting more confused each day. Hope this helps and do look foreward to a response from you. I am basically a novice with computers so I doubt that I can help you with your problems. I had also considered Nero but did not buy it because I was unsure if my Roxio drag to disc cd/dvd's would work with Nero which is expensive to purchase anyway. So am still up in the air. Thanks for your assistance. This brings you up to date so far. Question Subject: roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 basic This came with my computer and operated fine until my computer crashed 3 months ago. I had a problem with Ulead DVD authoring software. It used to write OK, but now it refuses. I have asked and asked wherever I can, but I can't even find a help site for Ulead - now part of Corel. Questions here have evoked some responses, but many are along the lines of: "It should work". I know that it should and wish it would. I have now reached the stage where I have to give up on Ulead. Many moons ago - maybe years - my wife said "Buy another program" but why should I when Ulead used to work !! Anyway, I am now trying Nero and have had some success. (I can't get the menu correct, but the movie DOES PLAY) So, this may not help you at all, but I commiserate. I don't like the expense of new programs either. They may also fail on you just as Roxio did for you and Ulead did for me - what hope does one have ?? | Re: roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 basic
Hi Trevor. Have read your message and am as disappointed as you re these programs. As for ulead I have never heard of it so don't know a thing about it. I do know that the roxio worked fine until my computer crashed but has this eject problem since I used my restore disc. and am not about going through all the problems of resetting up all my programs again and getting my accounts back on line in hopes of it working properly again. It is a hassell but will live with it. I am not going to spend $80-90 for an upgrade that I don't need or want when what I have and what I use it for is good enough. I also had a problem where I could not do a defragmentation on my hard disc. I posed the problem under windows XP general forum 2/21/08 under the title Defragmentation. The answers that I received solved the problem for me and my defragmentation works fine now, however it did not solve the roxio problem. I was told to use the checkdsk which would go into the computer and fix any problems. Yours may be a problem where chkdsk can help and maybe clear the ulead problem. Just guessing though, but it may be worth a try. You can refernce the comments under the "defragmentation" post for further info. One does not have much hope when it comes to big business. It is the almighty buck that counts and help in most situations with these big companies is usually next to nil and if so you wind up talking to someone in Packistan or India. Again "farm out" for the almighty buck. I could go on for hours about this but I am sure that you are in the same boat as most others are. I doubt that I will be able to help in the future with ulead so wish you more success than you are currently experiencing. | RE: roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 basic
Reg, Roxio completely took over parts of my XP system, especially the CD/DVD operations. Made life a nightmare. After writing a simple file to a CD, it took 5 minutes just to eject the CD. Photos copied to disk needed to have Roxio installed if you wanted to open the photos on another XP computer. Ridiculous. Fact is, you don't need Roxio at all to function normally. I uninstalled it, then did a 'Roxio" file search of my harddrive, and deleted anything that came up with that name. Computer went back to normal. If for some reason you want to re-install Roxio Creator, choose which functions you want to include, but be sure NOT to include the "'Drag-To-Disk" option. A real PIA. Best, Paul |

| RE: roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 basic
Thanks for the info. It is appreciated. Strangely enough my drag to disk works just fine. However using the cd/dvd creator to download files doesn't work. After installing 10 discs-5 CD and 5 DVD (each brand new) and trying to get a burn to the discs, each time a dialog box came up and told me that it could not work because of a disc problem creating an error and to install another disc. Roxio has had it in my opinion and can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. The only thing I want is to be able to back up my things on the computer and that is it. I don't need stuff like roxio creator 10, just a waste of money for me and will not buy it---period. I will look on the web for a simple program that will burn to cd/dvd's and that is it. Nothing fancy. In trying to get the creator to work it took 10-15 minutes just to get it started. The dialog box showing progress just sat there until finally it came up with a dialog box telling me about the error. Enough is enough with this crap. Regarding your problems with Roxio I hope that you were able to come up with a decent program that will do things that you want to do with your system. regards -- Reg Garbett "paullie" wrote: > Reg, > > Roxio completely took over parts of my XP system, especially the CD/DVD > operations. Hi paullie. Congrats on finding something that works for you. I will go on the web and take a look at it. Glad you enjoyed your "stomp" party. Too bad ( if you sent the remnants to Roxio) they wouldn't grasp the meaning behind it and would probably care even less. Best of luck with the new system.
