Autologon - Shift key not work first time

We have a small network in our office with few client workstations running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and fully updated with all recent patches. One of these computers is having some problems with logon. Few of our users have set autologon using "control userpasswords2" and set the ForceAutologon registry entry. Everything was going fine suddenly something went wrong today.

Whenever I turn on the computer, it logs on directly though I have pressed Shift key. If I make a logoff while pressing the shift key it allows me to select the login user. As per troubleshooting I also tried logon without ForceAutologon registry entry but still the same result. I need to be able to use the shift key when I start the computer the first time but it is no more working now. Do you guys have any idea what to do?

I don’t think there is anything wrong. Let me tell you that here timing is very crucial. You will need to press and hold the SHIFT key just before the Welcome screen loads, instead of pressing it when logon screen appears. Just try out the same.

Seems that LogonExpert for Windows Autologon tool does this

    From http://www.logonexpert.com/learnmore.html

    "Ease of autologon interruption
If your plans change and you do not want to logon automatically, you can easily interrupt automatic logon: just press a “Shift” key and automatic logon will be canceled. If you prefer not to allow users to interrupt automatic logon, you can disable this option."

Manually, this can be done by altering the "IgnoreShiftOverride" registry value. To disable the meaning of the SHIFT key, set the IgnoreShiftOverride key value to one. For more help on the same, just check out the following articles:
