    | Hi folks,
    |
    | Is it normal for XP to only display "Default Monitor" in Device
    | Manager, Monitors? I have an old Dell D825TM monitor, and I can't
    | find how to install this in Control Panel, Add New Hardware.
    |
    | In Windows 98 and 95 you had an almost endless list of monitors to
    | install in Add New Hardware, and the monitor model would be listed in
    | Device Manager . Is there some way to install the monitor, or has
    | this all changed?
    |
    | Thanks in advance,
    |
    | Jasper

The default may just be a simple Plug 'N Play monitor.
Are you actually having problems displaying in higher resolutions ?

Is "Plug N Play" not doing it for you?
What is it you are expecting to gain out of having the monitor driver?

The resolutions available to you may be limited by the monitor (in that you
cannot see beyond a given range) but they are provided to you by the Video
Card driver - not the monitor driver (necessarily, although your choices can
be limited - at least in the default view - by the monitor driver found.)

A google search revelas you might get a color profile for this monitor off
the Internet - however - unlikely you will find anything beyond Windows 2000
for a monitor of that age.

If you're not having any monitor problems leave it, it's standard to use the
"default" monitor. If for some odd reason you need drivers installed for your Dell
D825TM monitor, you'll need to download the drivers from Dells support site for your
specific monitor and install the drivers per their instructions.

More than likely Dell no longer provides drivers for a monitor that old. I
have a friend with a similar problem.

    | You are right. It would have to be about ten or more years old. I
    | search and search the Dell site and found nothing. Anyway, it does
    | not matter. It works fine as the default monitor. I was just
    | expecting it to be listed in one of the cabinet files on the XP CD as
    | a .inf file.
    |

And thus a clear benefit of a Plug 'n Play monitor.
    No driver needed.

Re: Driver for old Dell monitor

Even though they're not needed, if you want the drivers for your D825TM monitor,
the DELLMON.EXE file which has many drivers includes yours and can be download here:
    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/monitors/

The file can be opened with a file compression/decompression app ( at least WinRAR
opens it ) to see the contents.
