Movie Maker - Blank Black Screen

I am using Windows Movie Maker since long time on Windows XP without any problems. Recently I upgraded the same to Windows Vista. Now there is no problem importing audio/ video files in Movie Maker but when I play the project, I cannot see anything in the preview pane. Preview pane remains black and blank. I can only hear the audio but no video. I tried starting new projects with new videos as well but yet the Preview Pane remains black. Can anyone please provide me some help on the same? Many Thanks.

This is probably drivers problem. I mean your Video or graphics card driver. You should try updating the same to most recent drivers available on the official sites.

Also can i know what is the file format of your original raw video files? There is huge compatibility problems with Windows Movie Maker. Yous should converting those RAW files to WMV format first and then import in Movie Maker. See if it makes any difference.

Hey even i am facing a similar problem. I never had any problem with Video files recorded from my digital camera which use to be in AVI format. Recently i installed some new hardware and software to record movies and it saves the same in .mpg files. Strange part is i dont get any problem importing these files in Movie maker, neither editing or burning the same on DVD. But when i play that DVD i get completely blank screen.

As you stated i tried updating video drivers and created one more DVD but yet the result is same. Hope we get some working solution for the same.
