XP won't see entire 320 GB drive

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on a new Sata drive because my old hard drive crashed. The original XP was not SP2 but Windows Update did all of the latest downloads to bring it to SP2 which is the current installed version in my pc. When checked the properties of C drive then it shows only 137 GB, but it is a 320 GB drive? When checked in Disk Manager then it is showing 2 partitions on the new C: drive. The first bein 127.99 and as Healthy primary and the other is 170.1GB unallocated. Why was this partition created, how can I use it? Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

Because the install CD that you used did not include the SP2, then it will only recognize upto 137gb of a larger drive. Check the below article for more information:

Also, incase you dont have any issues with dynamic disk then you can convert the existing C: drive. You can convert the same drive to dynamic using disk manager and add to it the rest of the unallocated space.

You can try to go to Start and then Run and then type regedit. After that select the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then go to system/services/atapi/parameters or system/currentcontrolset/services/atapi/parameters and then right click for new. After that select Dword and name it as EnableBigLba and set value to 1. Exit the regedit and then restart the pc.

You can also try to get some disk manager tools like Acronis or Partition Magic to use the unallocated space to extend C: drive.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I have now solved the issue by using Norton Save and Restore and it has an option to expand the space to the destination drive. It worked pretty fine for me.
