    I only have a classic start menu selection in Windows XP

    I am running Windows XP and had some issues with IP address on my computer which was fixed after giving some money. The start menu was changed to classic when they cross looped into the computer. I am not able to get them to contact back. So, if I choose the properties on my start menu, then it will no longer give me the option to select the Start Menu. It will only show the Classic Menu for selection. It is already selected and I cannot de-select it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks.

    Go to Start and then Run and then type regedit and then locate the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
    \Explorer. After that in the right side, right click on NoSimpleStartMenu and modify its value to decimal 0 [dword:00000000]. Then logoff and logon again or restart for the changes to take effect.

    Thanks for the simple steps. The NoSimpleSmartMenu solution did the trick for me and now everything is working fine now.

    I'm having the same problem as posted above. i tried the msconfig solution but couldn't find NoSimpleStartMenu. I then downloaded the undo .reg file from kelly's corner but I'm having difficulties executing it. After saving it to my desktop as noted, proceeded to double-click the file. It automatically opens with notepad. How can I solve this problem and execute the commands?

    1. Start -> Run -> RegEdit
    2. Place selection focus to the very top of the tree view on the left.
    3. Click File -> Import
    4. Select and Import the REG file you downloaded to resolve the problem.
    5. You should be prompted with a message indicating success

    If you cannot open RegEdit or message indicates something other than success; there is a chance you do not have the required privileges to make the changes. You would then either be stuck with Classic view or be forced to deal with your IT department or Help Desk; good luck.

    I tried the suggestions given here, but I still can't get it to work. Can someone explain what "2.Place selection focus to the very top of the tree view on the left." means exactly? I downloaded the file and imported it, but I don't think I imported it into the correct area.

    BTW: My computer is a home PC.
