STOP: 0x000000D1 Win XP BSoD Error Message

I am getting Blue Screen of Death error on my computer. On the screen I am getting this error - STOP: 0X000000D1 (0x08AE1750, 0x00000002 x 0x00000000 x 0xBFDFC284) DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I am running Windows XP on a Thinkpad notebook. Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue? Thanks.

It could be possible that the drive for your CD drive could be bad. Can you go to Start and then Run and then type DEVMGMT.MSC and then highlight the CD drive device > Action menu > "Uninstall" and then restart the computer and let the computer find the device drivers again automatically.

Thanks for the reply but I am not able to get past the blue screen without performing some error recovery method. I mean to say that I cannot access Start and Run yet. Can you tell me how to get to DOS? Thanks

Can you try to press F8 on restart during the black screen period and then enter Safe Mode or try 'last known good config'. Try to enter the Safe Mode with Command Prompt and it will let you run a System Restore. Check the below link on HOW TO Start System Restore Tool from Command Prompt (Q304449):

Can you tell us what is your Windows XP CD as it is described on the face of the CD? Also let us know what is your computer make and model? How old is it? Did you make any hardware or software changes shortly before the problem first arose or changed memory perhaps?

I was thinking that this "Not less or equal errors" might be often happening due to CD drivers. You can try to get the CD out of the boot order that might be a good test that you can perform.

Thanks for responding, but let you tell you that the system thats locked up is a Windows 2000 operating system. I think that the method is same, but still find it that it might not be identical. I will keep searching for a proper solution for this issue.

Can you try to disconnect all peripheral hardware, except keyboard mouse and monitor. After you have done that can you access in safe mode? Check the article on "A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP" from this link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222. Incase you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key is not working then test with a wired keyboard and moust and see if that helps.

Thank you for the replies guys. There are no hardware's attached and none are attached now as well. The only changes that I made was updates to McAfee antivirus that is automatic. I have went further passing the Stop error by booting in Safe Mode and restoring the active desktop. But my system still freezes when opening any application. I dont know what else to do now.

If you are getting a freezing problem then it will be best not to cut power as it will make your issue worse. You will just need to wait and see how long it takes to solve this issue.

i had the bsod d1 error i had to figure out what was causing it after a lot of searching on the internet tips and stuff i narrowed it down to memory or the wifi hardware or software, i updated the software nothing changed still go the error, swapped the memory still error occurs the i opened up the back of laptop where the mini wifi card was it had 2 wires on it so through the process of elimination i took one wire off at a time, i got it working now with no error, on my wifi card the two wires was connected to a main and a aux i ended up leaving the main wire off and leaving the aux this seemed to work for me i now have no errors and i am still using the wifi connection
