| Duplicate Applicaton Icons in Windows Taskbar
Yesterday Windows Update automatically did about 7 security and other updates to XP Home. It then did a countdown and rebooted. After the reboot, I found an additional toolbar had been added to the Windows Taskbar that duplicates the icons for open files and applications. When I right click on the taskbar and go to Toolbars, no additional toolbar shows up. The active (checked) ones are Language Bar and Quick Launch, which I have always had checked. How can I get rid of the duplicate toolbar in the Windows Taskbar? |

A simpler solution than playing with Regedit. 1) Right clicked taskbar and unchecked "Lock the Taskbar". 2) Restarted computer. 3) Clicked small vertical dotted border of unwanted toolbar and drug it up to Desktop 4) deleted it. 5) Relocked taskbar. Not really sure what caused the arritional taskbar, bot it is now gone. |

Windows XP Help & Support Discussion Group http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...=en-us&m=1&p=1 This is an issue not covered well in any Windows Support info. Sometimes reboots and installations just seem to cause extra toolbars in XP. To delete a toolbar it is not necessary to play with the registry. Just do as follows: 1) Right click in any uncluttered area of the taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar. 2) You'll then see each each of your toolbars separated by a very small vertical column of dots. Move to each extra toolbar you no longer want, right click within it and choose Close Toolbar at the top of the menu. To create a new toolbar, right click in an unclutered area of the taskbar and select Toolbars>New Toolbar. |
