Gears of War - Games for Windows Version - ERROR

I sent the message below to Microsoft and was pointed to several "self help"
options... such as this board. Please advise... thanx! :)

I recently purchased Gears of War (Games for Windows PC version) and
installed it succcessfully. When I try to run the game, I get an error
message "wargame-gw4live.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"
and then the start window closes.

My PC runs the following:

Tyan Tiger S2466N motherboard with dual AMD Athlon MP 2800 processors
2G of Crucial Memory
Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates current as of 11/11/2007
ATI Radeon X1600 with current Catalyst drivers & WinXP updates

As you can see, my system more than meets the system requirements to run the
game. Obviously, this is a new enough release, the Microsoft Knowledge Base
has no entries on error solutions for Gears of War (Games for Windows PC
version). I would like to know how this can be resolved successfully, as
soon as possible, so I can play my game.

Ditto here. I have the same exact problem and get no solutions wherever I
look. Running Vista with all driver updated and all minimum requirements met.

This seems to be a common error,I found this with google.(fix included)

hi, what i need to do to save my game. only chek points can be saved.
i create a profile to run single player.

Hi aurichh,

The game is intended to save only at the checkpoints,
and it does so automatically. One theory is that this
procedure prevents corruption of saved games since
the game always starts "fresh" after each checkpoint.

Hi I am having trouble accessing old check points. They suddenly don't exist
any more. the machine cannot access them & I don't know how or where to
"point " the program.
