| iexplore.exe and Windows XP shutdown.
For several days now whenever I shut my computer down, I get a pop-up saying that iexplore.exe is trying to close and giving me the option to close it immediately which I do. The computer then shuts down just fine. Does anyone have any USEFUL suggestions to eliminate this anoyance? -- >>>>>>>>>> jetjock <<<<<<<<<< |

From Microsoft: The User Profile Hive Cleanup service helps to ensure user sessions are completely terminated when a user logs off. System processes and applications occasionally maintain connections to registry keys in the user profile after a user logs off. In those cases the user session is prevented from completely ending. This can result in problems when using Roaming User Profiles in a server environment or when using locked profiles as implemented through the Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Clark... -- Don't you have Google in your part of the world? |

I just noticed your question about Google. Yes, and I do use it quite often. I just thought I'd probably get a better answer here where all the Windows experts hang out. Also, I'll be surprised if the above is going to work for me. Since I NEVER use Internet Explorer, it seems unlikely that it has suddenly, on it's own, decided to start not releasing handles. But, since IE is integrated so tightly into WinXP, I guess anything is possible. As I said, will let you know tomorrow. -- >>>>>>>>>> jetjock <<<<<<<<<< |

I'm still getting the pop-up about iexplore.exe trying to shut down. Once I shut it down manually, Widows then shuts down just fine. Still looking for suggestions. -- >>>>>>>>>> jetjock <<<<<<<<<< |

There's some malware that runs multiple copies of iexplore.exe. You might check for that. An example: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...be90e523e701ed -- Joe =o) |

I had a customer just today that had a Malware Alarm infection after I cleaned the computer of the infections (malware alarm) the computer also hung on shut down with IExplore.exe yada yada.... I did the hive cleanup just as I suggested to you, and it worked great! Could you be infected with something ? I ran Smithfraud removal and Adaware.Se, and Spybot S&D then the profile cleanup from MS I hope that someone can help if I can't, I just know what has worked for me. Clark...
