Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

Before the desktop screen, there is a pop-up headed "Windows Installer". The
box is filled with "Preparing to Install" with the usual blue computer logo.
Cancelling takes some time and this pop-up may come up more than once, after
which the desktop appears. Access to websites and e-mails via IE6 brings up
another window headed "ccCommon"; the message is "Please wait while Windows
configures ccCommon." It this is not cancelled, another smaller pop-up
appears: "Setup"; the wording is "This MSI must be launched through Setup."
Closing this popup, closes the "ccCommon" window also.
What to do?

Re: Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

This indeed has been associated with upgrading from Norton Internet Security
2007 to 2008. I have had to delete and reinstall it once already. I have
now enlisted the help of Norton/Symatec but although they have sent e-mails
assuring me that we would contact me, nothing has happened; ... however. I
think I have solved the problem myself: in the Startup menu, I noticed that
one component in the loading was labelled Manual, rather than Automatic.
Having changed this and rebooted, I have have had no further intrusions. I
hope this is the end of the matter. Thanks for your suggestion.

What part of the Startup Menu is this in? I have been having the same
problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

I must confess that I did not make a note of exactly how I cured the problem
but I think it's actually in the Administration Tool of the Control Panel.
From there open Computer Management, then System Tool, then Services &
Applications, then Services. In there you should have a menu of services and
whether they are automatic or manual. Find one of the Symantec series which
is Manual and change it to Automatic; that should fix it. There may another
one in the menu which requires changing, which you will have to find
yourself. Hope this is helpful.

RE: Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

Hello...

I had the same problem. It is true that this is a Norton 2008 problem.
You don't have to uninstall anything nor go into Administrator computer
files. All you have to do is to place your Norton 2008 disc into the CD/DVD
drive on your computer, and then click "OK". The message will be history.

wile windows configures ccCommon". Then a third window pops up titled
"Setup" with a message stating "This MSI must be launched through setup"...
I also keep receiving the third pop-up window every time I check my
email.... I have re-booted my system several times and
still have the same problem.....

All my problems started after I installed a new software "PC Pitstop
Optimire" After I ran this new software all my problems started.

I contacted the PC Pitstop Optimize software vender through online help but
they didn't seem to have a clue on why or how to fix my problems......

I finally went to Symantec Services Tech Support to fix the problem. They
had to un-install my Norton 360 Software and Re-install it again. They said
that the installitation of the Optimirer software caused the problem.

Their recomendation was that I disable or uninstall the PC Pitstop Optimizer
software and use the Norton 360 PC tune up feature.

I have followed there instructions and have had no futher problems.

RE: Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

Tried CD. Didn't work. Still coming up. Have re-booted 10 times. Computer
is constantly accessing hard drive. Checked CPU activity but it's at only
1-3% but applications almost don't load or run due to HD activity. Anyone
else have any suggestions?

Re: Intrusion with "ccCommon" pop-up.

Looking up "ccCommon" in google send me to several support sites discussing this same problem.
Appears that this is a problem with an incomplete installation of Norton affecting the "Live
Update".
The Symantec response was to use the Norton Uninstaller Tool to remove all traces of Norton and then
to reinstall Norton.
If you downloaded Norton from the Web, I hope you saved the installation file to your hard drive and
did not choose the "RUN" option.
