Shield Icon with Exclamation Point Lower Right near Clock

I have 2002 XP Home Edition. Every twenty minutes or so, yellow shield with
exclamation point appears briefly. When I hover over it with curser, says
Downloading Updates 0%. Quickly disappears, only to reappear a few minutes
later. Could it be related to attempt to download new Real Player, which I
just did yesterday? Only thing I've done in last day or so that's new.

The shield icon is the "Windows Update". You probably have it set to
'automatic'

Yes, I do have it set to automatic. How do I make this annoying continuing
reappearance go away?

It would be relatively easy to turn off automatic update, and find out what
update is failing and continuing to re-try the install. After that you could
use this article to fix the problem download, and test.
