| Missing or corrupted file. Windows will not boot up.
I have a box that is running Win XP Pro SP1 and has been fine until last night. It is my daughters machine and she is doing homework on it. Yesterday she comes to me and say's it won't work. I started it up and it say's it has a "missing or corrupt file windows\system32\vgaoem.fon" and would I like to repair it using the original install CD. Ok I tried that and it won't work. Yes, I went into the Bios and set CD to start at boot. It would boot up and then give me an error beep and return to the original error just described. I downloaded the 6 setup disks and used them to start up the system and got "missing or corrupt bios??.inf". Would you like to exit and restart?" (?? = I forgot the filename) All I want to do is access the A:drive in a DOS Environment, then Access the c: root, then get my daughters homework off. Please Help. I have now spent over 6 hrs working on this issue before bugging you guys so now I'm desparate and don't want to turn it over to the geek squad just yet. Thanks |

I did not upgrade to Win XP Pro. The Machine was built with it by an IT Service person from my work. I suppose he might have updated from 98 and didn't tell me but I have had this machine for about 5 years. I will try this method and see if it works. I have heard that sometimes the Hard drive goes Kaput and does the same thing.
