Re: Digital Video Camera Not Detected

I am running Windows Vista on my HP laptop and it will not not recognize the firewire connection to Sony Digital Video cameras. I have tried a Microsoft solution editing the registry but it will not work either. The camera is turned on properly, as it hooks up right away to a desktop running Windows XP. Does anyone have any clue how to get this working? Thanks.

Did you ensure that the firewire port on the notebook is working properly? Can you ask anyone who you know that also has a digital camcorder and if you can borrow his for sometime and see if that one works on your laptop?

I recently purchaseda Canon camera and when if is connected into the Firewire on the computer then I get a sound, and it appears in the device manager. But it will not show up in My Computer and also the Video Editing software that I have will not capture it? I am running Windows XP SP2. The camera is running and powers from the AC and I tried more than one 1394 cable, but nothing shows up? Please help me.

The issue that you are facing could occur if you connect a 1394a or 1394b FireWire device to a 1394b port. This problem occurs because Windows XP SP2 changes 1394b ports to S100 speed when you upgrade. So to solve this issue, follow the steps given in this article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222

Even I was facing same problem but now I have solved it. I downloaded all Vista updates and it looks to have fixed the problem for me. I can say that there was no hardware issues, no change of the cables, no problems with the 1394 ports as well. There was no problem with Sony also because it looks their Camera is compatible and does not require a download of steering program.
