    Hi,
i've been getting the above messgae when im trying to sign into live
messenger, this is also happening when i've tried using the older version of
    messenger.
I've removed the contact cache store, but to no avail..
    Can anyone help?

I had this problem or a similar problem, plus lots of MS programs and certain
other programs had a huge delay starting up(such as administrative
tools-Services or the Stardock galaciv2 install program) It turns out that
    it was an MDM-DCOM problem.

The solution to my problem was going into IE-Internet Options-Advanced
Tab-Disable Script Debugging(check this, you might also have 2 versions, IE
and Other, check both of those) That disables the MDM process, which is only
used if you debug your system(if you don't know what debugging is, you do not
    debug:)

I have attempted the same things listed here and yet the same problem
exsists, Not sure what our systems have in comon that would make this happen.

RE: Windows Live Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to

Well here is the only fix I found that works

I saw there was the IE7 Beta 3 so I downloaded it and had to uninstall the
    Beta 2 to
Get the 3 so I uniinstalled it and then ran Live Messenger and it is working
    now
I haven't installed the Beta 3 to see if it will work or not yet
