error message,"Windows cannot clear ARP cache"

When I get online, my web connection is lost after only a few minutes. When I
go to Control Panel and tell Windows to repair the connection, I get the
message,'Windows cannot clear ARP cache" Then tells me to contact the person
in charge of my network. Well that's me. I've tried changing the network
card, and same result. I'm using a DELL desktop, with a Broadcom 40/400x
network card and controller. I've been told this card has some problems, but
I suspect it's a problem with XP, or my IE6.
Any help would be appreciated.

- Download (from Broadcom) the latest driver and install it.
(Are you sure about the model you gave? Is it a 440x card and not what you
stated above?)

Otherwise - look over this...

Are you able to ping the localHost IP 127.0.0.1 or other IP addresses, for
example the Router/modem?.
-Do you use Router or modem or combination together?, wireless or wired?.
-What make you think it is the ARP not your Hardware or connection settings?.
- If you have Wireless what kind of Encryption/security are you using (WEP,
WPA)?.
- Are you using Static or Auto IP address, check your TCP/IP settings for
IP, DNS.

Open a run command and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
ipconfig /renew click [OK]
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine, do you have connection and stable one?.

Network cards can be had for a little over $10, so it might be worthwhile to
test with another.

I almost missed this too:
"... I've tried changing the network card, and same result. ..."

At present, thinks seem OK. I will monitor it and let you know. Many thanks

Re: error message,"Windows cannot clear ARP cache"

What usually works for me is to go to Services via Control Panel -> Administrative Tools, and stop the "Routing and Remote Access" Service. Once that Service is stopped, Windows is able to clear the arp cache, etc. and repair the connection.
