CHKDSK: unused index entries and security descriptors.

Whenever I scan my hard drive for errors, then I am getting the below errors found on my disk:

Cleaning up 928 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 928 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 928 unused security descriptors.

It happens to all the 4 partitions on one disk, and also 2 partitions on another disk when it is connected. Chkdsk might be fixing things, but the issue keeps arising. Can anyone tell me what are all this things? What is the use of these security descriptors? Are they suppose to do anything with my not using Simple File Sharing? Any ideas? Thanks

Can you try to replace the ribbon cable to the drives to make sure that isnt the issue first.

You can also try to use HD Tune that comes for free. Download it from the hdtune website and then test your drive and see what comes up. Choose the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive letter and then double click the 2 page icon, copy to clipboard, and copy to get another message. After that choose the health tab and then double click the 2 page icon and then copy into a further message. You should also do a full surface scan with the same tool.

Can you tell us how old is this hard drives? It seems like an indication of a hardware issue, the hard drives themselves and cannot be corrected by software. It seems that the blocks have become physically damaged. You can try to replace these drives if they continue to give you issues. Also, the bad block issue might be causing your other problems if the bad blocks contain index/security data.

What does chkdsk show you in your system. Can you try to run chkdsk from within the Recovery Console and that version of it will unlink the unused entries rather than simply marking them as free? It might be either just fine or there is nothing wrong with your drive.
