0x000000b8 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I have a Dell desktop running with Windows XP Service Pack 3, patched with all recent Windows Updates. The system also has Radeon 9700pro with the newest catalyst drivers and direct x 9.0c. The problem i am facing is Blue Screen on this system started about 2 weeks ago. I get this BSOD 4 to 5 times a day with STOP error message saying "a wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC routine." I dont know what is it related to . In the error message it also suggests me to disable BIOS memory caching and shading. Here is the complete error detail:

"0x000000b8 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)"

I dont know what has gone wrong. I remember i haven't made any changes to the system recently. Apart from this blue screen i dont receive any other error message. However sometimes while playing games the graphics may start to go weird, such as vertical lines of patchy colours. The graphics drivers are updated to the most recent version. I guess the BSOD is problem is somewhere related to the graphics card.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

RE: 0x000000b8 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I have been through this problem couple of months ago. I dont think the problem is with your Graphic card. In my case i was using using Radeon 9800 pro. In While troubleshooting i found that the problem was not appearing while running the system in limited account user mode. I fixed my BSOD problem by simply applying the IE hotfix 889389 for Windows XP SP2. I also, went back to 08/04 ati drivers with control-panel,added wdm download. Hope it helps.

As per the situation described by OP i dont think it is a common issue. To me it seems like the cause of the error is Iomega parallel port Zip Drive. Just to confirm i will suggest you to check out the following MS KB Article describing
"Stop 0xB8 ATTEMPTED_SWITCH_FROM_DPC" Error Message When You Use a Parallel Port Zip Drive"

I read several articles on web and found most of them refering to be a driver issue. This might be an instance where using the Driver Verifier in Windows XP might provide some more specific details. Just go through the following steps and see if it fixes the problem:
  • Use Start - Run and enter VERIFIER in the dialog box.
  • Choose the "Create Standard Settings" option and click on Next
  • Choose the "Automatically select unsigned drivers" option and click Next
  • Click on Finish and then shut down and restart the computer.

By doing so it should give you a BSOD STOP error message that will identify the specific driver and the exact problem involved.

Hi Hiya, Lets enable the driver verifier in order to determine what driver is actually causing the blue scree. You can do this by:
  1. Windows Key + R
  2. Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
  3. Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
  4. Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
  5. Reboot

Note, your system may get BSOD while rebooting this time. If it occurs simply press F8 key and enter the safe mode. Now retry the same steps as mentioned above but when you reach the 4th step, make sure you select the option 'Select driver names from a list. Click next and check the box next to any driver where the provider is not Microsoft. Now click Finish and restart the system again.

Next time you crash the blue screen will hopefully say something like "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.

I have a clean virus scan and have cleaned any spyware. Thanks for any help in advance
