XP Home SP2 : slow desktop icons refresh?
I am running Windows XP with SP2 on a Pentium 4 computer. Now, whenever I close a folder on the desktop, it will reveal the underlying desktop, sometimes it comes up at first with all icons displayed with a generic representation like some kind of white box. It will take some time for the system to repaint the icons with the correct bitmaps. But other times the desktop comes up correctly instantly. I have 1.5gb ram and it doesnt seems to be a low memory problem. I even tried to delete the "iconcache.db" but that didnt help. So can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? Thanks

Download some XP tweaks called Increase Icon Cache from the below link and see if that helps:
