Audio Configuration Error - iTunes

I am using this Windows XP desktop with iTunes since long time and never had any problems. But since yesterday whenever I am trying to launch iTunes, it fails with the following error message:

"iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration."

I though re-installing iTunes could fix the problem but it is not even ready to uninstall from my system. Somebody suggested me to run scan-disk & defrag. Well I did the same but yet no success. Now I have no idea what else can be done to get rid of the same. Somebody please provide some help.

In such situation when you are not able to uninstall iTunes, you should uninstall QuickTime first and then re-install the quicktime version without iTunes. This will help you. You can download the individual QuickTime from here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
