| Window Live Onecare back up files --how to delete
I ran the beta Windows LiveOnecare on my new hp compter back on Jan 11. I used an external USB drive for the one care to create a back up on. When I ran the 1 care the system lost internet connection(not microsofts fault but was an HP software issue.) I had to do a system restore on the HP computer to get the internet connection working again. This was after spending 4 houras on the phone with a HP tech. The lost of internet was an ongoing issue with the new hp computer for the first month. HP would not support my satelitte internet connection. Some HP updates did fix this problem in about a month. It also took HP 3 months to ship my so called Express upgrade to Vista. I know have windows Vista on the computer. But will never buy an HP computer again. Though I did not buy this one as Santa brought it. My problem is that there is 0.99gbs of back up date created by windows live onecare on the usb drive. I have tried to delete the file but cannot as it says the files are protected. I have tried changing the file attributes by removing the read only. I have also used a feature in Jermar software Tweaki program that removes files currently in used by Windows. None of these have worked. How does a person delete files created by Windows Live Onecare? I would like to get the 0.99 gb of space back. I could always copy the 110 gbs of data to another drive and then format the drive to set rid of the Onecare files, but that is going to involve many hours and a lot of hassle to just to get 1 gb of space back. There has to be a way that the Windows live Oncare Back up files can be deleted. Any ideas? |

This is something i found on another thread There is an easier way by the use of cacls Use this line as example If you have a folder on the E drive called Windows OneCare and the folder in it called Backup 2005 has the files in it, then do this: cacls "e:\Windows OneCare\Backup 2005" /t /g administrators:F cacls "<drive letter>:\<path>" /t /g administrators:F Do NOT put a \ after the path This will strip the permissions from the folder and should allow you to delete it :) do that and then delete the files! |

| Deleting old bacup files
Step 1: Enter Safe Mode =================== 1. Restart the computer. 2. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 3. Choose Safe Mode, and press ENTER. NOTE: In Safe Mode, your system display and desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. To go back to Normal Mode, we just need to restart the computer. Step 2: Take ownership of the folder =========================== 1. Right-click the backup folder you want to delete, and then click Properties. 2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if it appears). 3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab. 4. In the Name list, click your user name, or click the Administrators group. Click to select the "Replace owner on sub containers and objects" check box. 5. Click OK. The following message will appear: All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes. 6. Please Click Yes. 7. Click OK, then try to remove the folder again. |
