Desktop, Menu Bar, Desktop Icons Fail to load

I am having a Windows XP desktop. It worked fine until I turned it off yesterday night but today morning when I started the system, it went fine until I logged in my account. I saw my desktop background loading but there were no desktop icon, no Start menu, nothing. When I press Ctrl-Alt-Del it opens the task manager fine but that’s it. I cannot access anything else.

Can anyone please tell me what has happened to my system thought it was shutdown? How can I fix it? Many thanks.

Most probably there would be some problem with any System File. hence i would suggest you to better go to start/run, and type SFC /SCANNOW to repair all system files. Hopefully it will fix the problem.
