    Performance counter issue

I am using Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2. Since past couple of weeks i am noticing an Error message in my Event Viewer. It is something like this:

    "Event ID: 3012
The performance strings in the Performance registry value is corrupted when process Performance extension counter provider. BaseIndex value from Performance registry is the first DWORD in Data section, LastCounter value is the second DWORD in Data section, and LastHelp value is the third DWORD in Data section."

I have no idea about Event ID. Even tried googling but dint found anything. Hope someone from here can surely help me out. Many Thanks.

Hello Franseza. Here are two links which will help you to get rid of the error permanently. Just follow the steps provided:

    Re: Performance counter issue

I appreciate your help Patton, but have a confusion. I checked that MS KB Article and it says the article is applicable for the following wherease i am using Windows XP Home:

    APPLIES TO
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86)
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86)
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

Is it for me to apply them?

    Re: Performance counter issue

Yes, you can apply the same on your XP computer and ignore that "Applies to" section. Even i am using Windows XP Pro SP2 and have the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009
    I have perfc009.dat, perfd009.dat, perfh009.dat and perfi009.dat in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
NOTE: %systemroot% is an environment variable that is the location of the Windows root folder. %Systemroot% in my case is C:\WINDOWS. %windir% is an environment variable that is the location of the system folder, C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT, and easier to type.
I have PERFC009.DA_, PERFD009.DA_, PERFH009.DA_ and PERFI009.DA_ in the I386 folder on the XP CD.
