You would be looking for a "no-cd crack". Generally these are found on
crack and/or hack websites. You should be able to locate what you are
looking for by doing a search with the above phrase, along with the title of
the game, in just about any search engine...

BE FOREWARNED. These sites are HIGHLY unsafe to brows. You better have
your system locked-down like Fort Knox! Updated anti-virus (a good one),
anti-spyware, anti-adware, etc. ALL security updates and patches in place,
etc. I'm talking TIGHT! The people that supply (or create) these little
pieces of software aren't stupid. Without the utmost caution and
common-sense on your part, you can infect (viruses, trojans, etc.) your
computer like you would never believe!

If the above doesn't stop you from trying, just an extra piece of advice...
Don't EVER install any type of "downloader" or "download assistant" from any
of these sites in order to get the software you are after. If the site you
are on wants you to, FIND A DIFFERENT SITE!

You have been warned!

Re: Using PC Games without using the disk

There's two ways to have it work.

1 - get a 'no cd crack', best place for that seems to be www.megagames.com.
The crack itself tends to be a file that replaces the games main executable
file. It's advised you rename the original file rather than delete it as
some updates (should you choose to update) won't without the original file.
Note - the cracks tend to work for a specific version of the game. Therefore
if you update the game you'll need to get a new crack. Most cracks include
specific instructions for what to do.

2 - many games will recognize the cd in the drive even when using an image
of the cd mounted in a virtual drive. If going this route, might as well do
a minimum install of the game to save disk space.

Also note that if the intent is to have your buddies also playing the game,
many will not allow you to play online against them as the install key will
be the same (and the game might check for that). If so, look for a keygen to
create a unique key for the game for each install.

Well there are games that don't need to be cracked.

Supreme Commander which is nothing less than a fantastic game no longer
requires the disc in the drive to play as the developers released a patch
after a few weeks of it being released to remove the check.

Flight Simulator X doesn't require a disc to play, and a few others too.

Hopefully other publishers will get the message and stop putting disc checks
on games.

I certainly agree with that. Having to use the original disk every time is
something I detest if for no other reason than it increases the chance of
damaging the disk and then you have "nothing". Why I learned how to avoid
needing it and also why I've returned a couple to the place of purchase
(with big fight for refund).

But then again, I don't "activate" anything either so I'll keep flying
FS2004 (LDS 767) and not bother updating to FSX :)

Means you need more education than currently have and this is not the place
you'll get it.

You need to put that file into the directory where you installed the game...
Ex. C:\Program Files\{gamecompany}\{gamename}\ something like that anyway.
Just make sure that you make a BACKUP COPY of the original file in case
something doesn't work right. Rename the original file to something like
{gamename}old.exe
