| Netgear WG111v2 connection problems I purchased 2 new pc's and also 2 x WG111v2 usb wireless network adaptors. I am running XP SP2. When I install the software for the WG111v2, the windows welcome screen disappears and only gives me option of "user" to logon. Even though the computer recognises the wireless network, it has trouble connecting. On the osdd occasion it acquires a network address, it is basically inopreable. Can anyone help please. |

| RE: Netgear WG111v2 connection problems
I would guess you should first check the posibility of radio interference, or perhaps some grounded object -between- the two wireless points (a Faraday cage). The fact that they do sometimes communicate indicates that they at least work. Move the systems to an unobstructed location, and turn off other possible sources of radio interference. |

| RE: Netgear WG111v2 connection problems
Thanks for the tip. I have tried that now and moved 1 of the new pc's to within 2M of the Linksys WAP (WAP11). It didn't change anything. Is there a chance that it might be a problem with the Linksys device? I have noticed another thread showing problems with a Linksys/netgear combination. |

Unfortunately, the Linksys WAP11 is not covered by this link. Could we look at why I loose the "Welcome" screen when I load the Netgear program etc prior to actuallay plugging in the Netgear WG111v2. Regards |

| RE: Netgear WG111v2 connection problems
I have, with the help of an MVP post, run a fix for the "Welcome" screen issue. I have run the Netgear WG111v2 install program, and plugged in the adapter. Whether I use Netgear or Windows to configure the access, it just doesn't connect. I have a 70% signal strength and no encryption (yet), but it still will not connect. Regards |

I found you solution from another post. (see "RE: Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration Utility problem" by smlunatick) Go to start/run, and type: services.msc Look for the Netgear service, and stop it Run the zero config. Zero Configuration 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet Connections. 2. Click Network Connections, right-click Wireless Connection, and then click Properties. 3. View the available options: |

| RE: Netgear WG111v2 connection problems
Even after unisntalling and reinstalling the Netgear program/drivers etc, it does not appear when I go into services.msc. I have removed Norton, I have turned off the firewall, I am runninmg out of ideas. the front screen of the Netgear utility shows my wireless network with a signal strength of 70+%, but when I try and connect, it just searches all the channels. If I go to the second tab, and scan, it doesn't find any networks. Is it time to ring Netgear and speak to India??? |

I mis-spoke when I said 'Netgear service', you might find a "Linksys service' to turn off in services .msc. |

I tried all options. But, as a last resort, I went to the Linksys config and set it on Channel? 2 and it worked. When it was scanning, it automatically used Ch 6 and the pc's would not connect. Once I fixed it to Ch 2 everything now works fine. Thanks very much for your help. |

I'm also having problems with my Netgear WG111v2 usb card. I've had it for over a month and haven't had any problems with it. Last Thursday, my laptop was in sleep mode and when I powered it back up, I don't know what I did but the usb card will only stay enabled or connected for about 5 second before it disables. It will keep repeating the enabled disabled pattern. I tried reinstalling the software but no luck. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it? It's not the USB hub because the same thing happens no matter where I plug it in. It was running fine for a month. It's very strange that it connects for 5 seconds, disconnects, connects, disconnects. My signal strength is excellent but there is no data transmitting. |

Plug the card into a powered USB hub; they allow more current, which may be needed by the device. |

| Re: Netgear WG111v2 connection problems
I finally found how to fix the adapter's problem with WEP keys. It is such an easy fix. Step1- Reinstall the adapter, but when it gives you the option to control the adapter with netgear choose windows instead. Step2- Go to your router with another computer by typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Step3- Go to wireless options or something similar to that Step4- There should be an option that says "key type" or something. Instead of Open key, choose Shared key. Click save changes. Step5- connect to the internet with your other computer and type in your WEP key Voila! You should now have a reliable internet connection. |
