| How to safely delete all System Information Volume content/System restore points ?
From the beginning of my WinXP installation I turned off Monitoring (and creating of System Restore points) for my drive D: (I enabled it only for drive C:). Much to my surprise I detected recently that some System Restore Points exist for drive D: How can that happen? I decided to delete them. With menu START->Programs->Accessories->SystemTools->DiskCleanup I can delete all but the last System restore Point and the necessary amount of hard disc space is shrinked to 20MB. Fine. Is there a chance to get rid of the last 20 MB (=The last System Restore Point as well)? Can I simply delete the SystemVolume Information folder or does this cause troubles ? Rod |

Hi Rod, If Disk Clean-up did not clear out all of the restore points use the following information to access and remove them manually. And no, the SVI folder can not be permanently deleted because it is also used by the Indexing Service and File Encryption. What is the System Volume Information folder used for: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#SVIWhatIsIt Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org Member: http://dts-l.org Rod Newton wrote: > From the beginning of my WinXP installation I turned off Monitoring (and creating of System Restore points) > for my drive D: (I enabled it only for drive C:). > > Much to my surprise I detected recently that some System Restore Points exist for drive D: > > How can that happen? > > I decided to delete them. In the System Restore tab of System Properties, highlight each drive in turn and click on the Setiings button to turn off for each drive. |

Turning off System Restore will remove all restore points. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
