    Chaning COM port assignments

I am using a bluetooth usb dongle to connect to my mobile phone that has bluetooth inbuilt. I am getting one issue with it, the serial ports assigned to this connection are ports Com1 and Com 2? I want to assign them to anything in the range Com3 and Com4 that are not only free on my system but are the ports that the application I want to use recognizes. Can anyone tell me how to change those com port assignments? Thanks.

You can set Windows XP manually to assign hardware settings but you have to give up the standby feature. As long as you accept the fact that 'going back' to a standby enabled system would require running Windows Setup again, you can change to a setting of "Standard PC". It will enable that checkbox in the properties of devices in Device Manager that lets you "Manually assign settings". Check the below link as well:

Just go into Control Panel > System > hardware > device manager and then find and expand the ports section. After that right click on the port you want to change and select properties. On the Port Settings tab select Advanced. After that in the lower left, there is a dropdown where you can change the com port number assignment. Select ok back to the desktop and then device will be at the location now.
