Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Hello,
I'm using Windows XP Pro. I use Hibernate option much often than the Stand
By option in Turn off computer window. In this window when we press the shift
key the Stand by button changes to Hibernate button. Is there any way to get
Hibernate button instead of Stand by button and when I click shift key the
Hibernate button change to Stand by button?

Re: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

There is one way I can think of, and it involved modifying the registry.

1.Go to Start>Run>type in "regedit" without the quotes
2. Navigate to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
3. Right-click Windows, point to New, and then click Key.
4. In the New Key #1 box, type System, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click System, point to New, and then click Key.
6. In the New Key #1 box, type Shutdown, and then press ENTER.
7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
8. In the New Value # 1 box, type ShowHibernateButton, and then press ENTER.
9. Right-click ShowHibernateButton, and then click Modify.
10. In the Value data box, type 1, leave the default Hexadecimal option
selected, and then click OK.
11. Quit Registry Editor.
Restart. That should do it.

Re: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Hello again,
Thanks for that really quick reply. I have done exactly according to the
instructions on the
page: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;893056
but it has gone fruitless. I still have to press shift key to view Hibernate
button on the Turn off computer window.

Re: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Its written out there "After you apply this hotfix, you must modify the
Windows registry to enable the appearance of the Hibernate button. To cause
the Hibernate button to appear when you click Turn Off Computer, follow these
steps"......... Where is this hotfix file?

RE: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Here is a good news. I finally got it. Goto the following link:

http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/show...t=34566&page=2

Download 2 files from here posted by: vishal-gupta
1. For u I hv uploaded the English version of the HOTFIX here.
2. Hibernate.zip file.

To download the hibernate.zip file you need to create an ID on this site.
First install the hotfix, restart your PC and then extract the zip file and
double-click on Resgitry file to merge it in registry. Now, click Start -
Turn Off Computer and what you will see is four choices - Hibernate - Standby
- Turn Off - Restart.

Hope this help, let us know!

Re: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Hello,

I don't think the article applies to you - its only for systems that have
trouble getting the Hibernate option. Try doing the below registry "hack"

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Shutdown
Create a DWORD value named ShowHibernationButton and set its data to 1.

The solution was posted at this page

Re: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Have you checked it on your PC? I already did it and none of them were working.
You should check this link once and let me know if it was useful to you.

RE: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

WoW! So you didn't like this. I already knew that what you were asking for
but I thought you will like this fourth Hibernate button. I was searching
this for months. Anyhow, I don't think that currently any solution is
available what you are asking for but I will still do a research and will let
you know.

However, I think turning off the ACPI and APM options from BIOS will turn
the Standby button to Hibernate but will not return it back to Standby if you
press the Shift key. Try it and let me know. I will experiement it on
tomorrow and will let you know.

RE: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Dear Mr. Kohli,
It is surely not the case that I didn't like your suggestion and have got
the four options on that window but finally I would prefer it my way.

Will I be able to turn the ACPI and APM options on again in future if I need
it in the default way.

That site gets its information from the microsoft website I posted. There
are no disparities in our answers.

RE: Want Hibernate button Instead of Stand By button

Exactly not. What you need to do is to change the Registry Values to make it
back to default way.

1. Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT and press Enter key.
2. Expand To:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
3. In the right-side pane, set the value of both entries to 0:

HibernateAsButton
ShowHibernateButton

Hope this help, let us know!
