System was working perfectly then, one day, turned system on - no boot beyond
Mup.sys. Tried safe mode - won't boot. Can't get scandisk, chkdisk, nothing.
How can I salvage my system?

Hi David,
Will it could be caused by many things, hardware, software driver, try to
Open the Case the Remove the Dust by compressed Air Can and take out the PCI
cards and reseat the Memory, be careful in this process to handle thing with
care and before touching any thing Just hold the metal frame for 30 seconds
to Neutralize or equal the Charge in your body with the system or discharge
yourself first then handle the Expansion cards and remove them from their
slots.
After all clean relocate them back firmly in their slots and close the Case.
Be sure to unatach all hardwares attached to the computer and Power ON the
machine.
If the above not your Cup of Tea and you can't do it, then it is good to
safe yourself the electric shock and take the machine for a local
Professional IT tech person and He/she will do it for you.
HTH.

David:
It's always a good thing to keep your PC as free from dust and debris as you
can as recommended by nass, but I really don't think an unclean computer is
at the root of your present problem. Later on, when you resolve your problem
you can tidy up, OK?
The first thing to do is to test your HDD with a diagnostic utility which is
generally available from the website of the disk's manufacturer. Do that to
determine if you're dealing with a defective HDD and we can go on from
there, OK?

Hi Anna,
That's a good root to take beside testing the Memory too, But I was waiting
for David to see if the resetting of the Expansion cards and removing the
Dust will help or not.
The machine trying to Boot up and try to read this Mup.sys file, which can
belong to a driver for a Hardware and can't locate it, which causing this
error message.

Hello Nass and Anna.
Guess what, before I read your replies I took off the covers and checked all
the connections -power, SATA etc. on the motherboard, disconnected the slave
drive and, hey presto, re-boot. Success. Reconnected slave, did a chkdisk,
found nothing. Now rebooting perfectly. Yippee!!
Thanks both for the comments.
Yep, resetting the Cables and reset the HDD Ribbon will make any loose Data
cable firmly fitted and the reading from the HDD is accurate and I think it
is Overheat issue so keep it cool.;-)
Thanks for letting us know.
Good luck.

Can anyone help me? I have a similar problem with my laptop. All of a sudden my cdrw/dvd drive was no longer working. I uninstalled it from the control panel and restarted and reinstalled it. It still wouldn't work and said the driver was corrupted. I downloaded the driver from the Phillips site, but when I ran the file, it said it couldn't find the device or I didn't have the right to install it. So I unistalled the drive again, ran a spyware and deleted all the infected files, and restarted my computer. When I restarted I got a blue screen with a "stop 0x0000007b" error. I tried starting it in safe mode and it keeps getting stuck at the mup.sys file. I've physically taken the drive cd/dvd drive out of the computer and tried starting it and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions? I can't get past the blue screen to run virus scan or anything.
