Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close

I am getting the above error when I want to play the mpeg files, below is its full description:

Can you go to start and then run and then type DEVMGMT.MSC. After that highlight the Sound Device > Action Menu > Uninstall and then restart teh computer. Aftert that try to find the device drivers again automatically.

Are you trying to say that C-Media AC 97 Audio Device and LegacyAudio Drivers that you want to install? It will only happen when trying to view mpegs and not music files. Thanks

You can try to uninstall WMP 11 from the Control panel and then reinstall it again. Also make sure you choose the right version for your system, that is, whether 32bit or 64bit, download from below link

I've had this problem for a couple of weeks now and still don't know how I got it.I was using WMP 9 when it started.I tried a lot of the advise on these forums and nothing worked. By persistence,not knowledge,I found this fix and,happy days,it worked.

I forgot to mention,along the way I switched to WMP 11.I'm assuming the fix works in all versions.
